The Bourne Financial Development Corporation
today announced receipt of a grant from the TD Banknorth
Charitable Foundation. The grant will be used to support
the development of an inventory of commercial properties
in the Town of Bourne.
The inventory will be developed by
the Suffolk University/Cape Cod Public Administration Program
in a partnership with the BFDC. “We are grateful to
the TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation for funding this project,” John
Harding, President of the BFDC Board of Directors stated. “While
the data exists in Town Hall, it needs to be assembled in
a way that can be useful as we consider developing or re-developing
land in Bourne to support and expand the business sector.”
The
commercial property census will not only identify potential
sites for development and/or re-development when business
owners’ want to expand in or relocate to Bourne, it
will provide a strategic review of what areas in Bourne can
support development.
In its application to the TD Banknorth
Charitable Foundation, the BFDC wrote “Currently no
such inventory exists. And, equally important, because of
the heavily developed nature of the Town, the organization
needs to identify areas where re-zoning will logically support
development and/or re-development, especially using smart
growth principles of mixed retail, office, residential, and
service uses in village centers.”
“Revitalization
of the Buzzards Bay business district and the health of Bourne’s
economy is a priority for TD Banknorth, as we have high hopes
for the Town’s future. The Bourne Financial Development
Corporation is a key agent in the effort to promote smart
business growth,” commented Marlene Weir, TD Banknorth
Community Relations Officer.
The BFDC’s mission is
to promote the common good and general welfare of the town
of Bourne and to improve the living standards of its citizens
by fostering the improvement of employment and educational
opportunities. A 501(c)(3) organization, the BFDC was established
by vote of Bourne Town Meeting and an act of the legislature
of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 2000. |
